Telecom Service Audit: Unused Telecom Services or “Remnant IT”

Approximately 50% of Anilix customers pay for telecom services that are no longer in use and provided no value.

Many organizations pay for IT services long after they are needed. These "remnant services" range from phone lines and seats not in use to data circuits provisioned for an office that had closed. By thoroughly reviewing telecom inventory and usage, Anilix identifies substantial cost savings by canceling remnant services. This case study highlights the importance of regularly validating telecom services to ensure they are still required, avoiding spending on services that no longer provide business value.

Examples

Example I: Professional Services Company

Anilix did an audit for an international professional services firm with over 10,000 employees and found 16 discrete services that were no longer needed. This included a circuit with Verizon serving an office that had been shuttered for 7 years along with services from Lumen, AT&T, and Comcast. Not only did Anilix negotiate a $10K “good faith” credit with Verizon but we also disconnected all 16 sets of services, resulting in $135K in annual savings.

Example II: Regional Real Estate Company

A regional real estate firm with 600 agents across 10+ offices continued to pay for 24 data circuits that were no longer needed following office closures and network upgrades. Disconnecting these remnant circuits from providers including Verizon, AT&T, Frontier, and Comcast saved our client over $100,000 in annual spend

Example III: Software and Services Company

A US-based software company with several international offices had numerous voice and data services that were not in use. These remnant circuits from providers including Fusion, Fuze, British Telecom, and Tollfreeforwarding.com represented over $35,000 in annual spend, all of which our customer realized.
